Metrobot Local Search Engine Goes Nationwide Bringing A New Approach to Online Mapping
(Williamsport, PA) Metrobot LLC, the maker of Metrobot (R), a map based local search engine and city guide (http://www.metrobot.com), announced today that it has expanded coverage nationwide. The Metrobot search engine is distinguished by its unique mapping concept which depicts businesses that occur on either side of individual road segments. This mapping approach displays contextual information not available from any other online mapping source. According to Metrobot CEO Geoff Campbell, "typical online maps allow a user to zoom in on an area and see the local streets, but these maps are geared for the automobile, rather than the more human scale at the sidewalk. Metrobot maps start where these other maps leave off, providing additional information including businesses listings and business web page links for each road segment. It's like adding another level of zoom to the map." The roads in a Metrobot map are displayed in a straightened and aligned manner. Users can traverse the complete road network of an individual city by clicking on intersecting road links. Someone planning a trip to a specific location can easily see the businesses that are located nearby the destination. With the expansion from eleven cities to nationwide coverage, the size of the Metrobot business database has grown to just under seven million listings. Businesses which are not yet included can submit their listing information free of charge. Expanded listings are available in the form of a four line text advertisement for a fee of $40 per year. These ads appear at the top of search result pages and within the Metrobot street maps, resulting in street level focused advertising. New with this release is the use of the Google Map API to display a key map which highlights the road segments depicted in the Metrobot map to better orient the user. Metrobot was built with mobility in mind and is accessible from any internet capable device including cell-phones and PDAs which support the XHTML-Basic standard. The output resolution of Metrobot screens and maps can be set to match the resolution of various devices (down to a screen width of 160 pixels for smaller devices). Additional program features allow users or business owners to access a calendar of events, a multi-topic forum, or a chat room associated with each business. Users can also employ a tracking feature to enable friends or co-workers to locate them as they move through any Metrobot city. Metrobot LLC is a privately owned business established in Pennsylvania in 2003. Contact:
